Stephan Kiefer, has a diploma degree in informatics from University of Saarland, Germany. He works as senior researcher and group manager in the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering. Fraunhofer is the leading non-profit organisation for applied research in Germany. In his early years at Fraunhofer he developed embedded medical devices and industrial sensor systems. Later he leaded pioneering national telemedicine projects for the rehabilitation of stroke patients at home. He was the architect of various personal health systems for disease management developed in the context of European research. In his current position as group manager for Smart Health Information Systems he is responsible for innovative e-health solutions and e-infrastructures for biomedical research. He is the coordinator of the Horizon2020 project iManageCancer and the manager of the national project XplOit that delivers a semantic platform for biomedical data integration and for developing models for health predictions.
